Gresford Athletic have completed the signing of Josh Watkin from Mold Alexandra.
The defender becomes the First Team's fourth new signing of the 2024/25 summer transfer window.
Watkin started his career as a youth player at Wrexham, before making the move to Connah's Quay Nomads in 2019.
The 20-year-old progressed through the youth ranks at The Nomads, playing for their Under 16s, Under 18s and Under 21s and eventually reaching the fringes of the First Team squad, making his senior debut against Holywell Town in the 2021/22 Nathaniel MG Cup, until he made the move to Mold Alexandra on loan during the second half of the 2022/23 season.
A successful loan spell led to a permanent transfer to Mold Alexandra in the summer of 2023 and throughout the 2023/24 season, he made 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and helping to keep seven clean sheets, being named The Alex's Players' Player of and Young Player of the Season in a successful campaign in which saw them finish in fourth place of the JD Cymru North, whilst also win the Welsh Blood Service League Cup in both the Northern and National sections.
He now makes the switch to Gresford Athletic to further increase the quality of the First Team squad's defensive options.
Gresford Athletic First Team Manager Eddie Maurice-Jones is very happy with the addition of Watkin:
"It's brilliant news to finally secure the signing of Josh. He's an unbelievably talented football player who brings key attributes to the team, including exceptional quality on the ball, brilliant passing range and intelligence in and out of possession.
"We've admired Josh for some time and he has impressed us on numerous occasions, both when playing against us and when we've watched him.
"I'm confident he will play an important role in what we aim to achieve at Gresford Athletic this season and I look forward to working with him."
Gresford Athletic First Team Assistant Manager Jonathan Hill-Dunt adds that the club have been targeting Watkin for a while:
"I'm very happy that Josh is joining the club. We have tried to sign him in the last three transfer windows.
"He's had a very good time at Mold Alexandra and we are really looking forward to working with him."
