The game started with the first chance falling to Ilan ap Gareth in the third minute, who volleyed the ball towards goal, but it went over the crossbar.

Then, Josh Watkin did superb to get back in time to make a crucial goal-line clearance to deny a Guilsfield opener and keep the score level in the 20th minute.

Lewis Dutton was then called upon in the 36th minute, pulling off a good save to stop Guilsfield from taking the lead.

Just before half time, in the 44th minute, Charlie Mann created a chance from a long throw-in, which was headed out by the Guilsfield defence, but into the path of Charley Edge to hit it first time on the edge of the area to find the bottom corner of the net to ensure that Gresford Athletic went in 1-0 up at half time.

The second half was a quieter affair, with both teams battling well and evening each other out.

Charley Edge fired a free-kick towards goal in the 69th minute, but it went into the hands of Guilsfield goalkeeper Luke Evans.

In the 83rd minute, Elliott Orton played a great ball forward, reaching Toby Gallagher-Keenan, whose tap towards goal was saved by Guilsfield's Luke Evans.

Just before the end of the game, substitute Dominic Deacon on his return from injury made a great run with the ball on the left-hand side, but is eventual shot was again saved by Luke Evans in the Guilsfield net.

The game ended in victory for Gresford Athletic, though, who fought well to earn a crucial three points and a well-deserved clean sheet.
